COMMERCIAL.
Chbiptchtjrch, August 23. In local transactions there is but littlo lo report. Farmers' sales of whea* have been made at 4s 6d for good milling, and choice seed lots at 2d to 3d per bushel more. We have heard of some considerable sales between merchants and millers, but the exact figure afc which the sales have beon made has not transpired. It is, however, under stood to be about 4s 9d. Flour is in good demand at £1 1 for first class brands and £10 for second brands. Millers are, however, reuctant to make considerable sales at present prices. Oats are excessively dull, and sales most difficult to effect. Feeding sorts are not worth over 3s 2d, and milling, 2s 4d. For town trade a small business haß been done at 2s 6d to 2s 6d. The Melbourne market appears to be getting, if anything, worse. Good malting barley would sell readily ot 6s, but there is little or none offering. Secondary sorts are difficult to quit at 3s 6d upwards, according to quality. Grass seed is beginning to move at 3s fid to 48. Potatoes are in very fair demand at £3 5s to £3 10s at country stations. The Warnambool market k reported in the Standard of the sth instant as follows : — " The price ofEering for potatoes yesterday by those merchants open to purchase, was £4 15s per ton. There was little or no business doing at the stores." Dairy produce, and hams, and bacon, are without quotable change. — Canterbury Press*
