• --' Yesterday. The Board met at 3. 30 p.m. Present — Messrs Orowtber (Chairman), Cook, Loudon, Coley, Easion,, The minutes of iWfb meeting were read and confirmed. It Letter read from Messrs 0. Collins, T. Bowe, C Synions, J. Dean, and A. King, asking the {Board's "kind attention to the awful i bad state of the road," from the sand putting near Mr Neylon's residence^jo the Board's boundary, which |^Hit was declared is impassable for^^Kc. The Clark was instructed toj^Hi to Mr Collins, stating that the ]^^B> being on the leva ofkping Qu^a^^Bce r d i^ wt- JgaL ju^tiiieS id eu^^pn^aitff anjT t^n* contracts. Letter left over. An account having been sent from T. McCarthy, for footpaths, Mr Easton asked whether any one had passed the work. He had been informed that the contractor had used 3-iucb. nails for the kerbing.— Mr Coley remarked that the contraotor had since gone over the work, and put in 4 -inch nails. A long discussion took place upon the vexed auesj^ tion-A?hether- "*he illflue^ paid to T. M'Carthy or T. Robinson, as it appeared a dispute had arisen between them since thoy took the contract as " Robinson and purty." The general feeling of the Board was that it would be inadvisable to interfere any more than necessary with tha contractors. It was eventually resolved to call an extraordij nary meeting for 10 o'clock on Sat-, urday morning, to arrange with the two contractors a satisfactory settlement of the affair. Regarding Mr Duncan's claim, Mr Cook reported that iMr Crowther, Mr Coley, and himself had inspected the work, and found that the work was of full value to the claim sent in by Mr Duncan. In fact, if it had been done by contract, it would hay« cost more. He moved " That the Rev. Mr Duncau's claim of ,p for -work on the Lady's Mile, bo granted." August 2o^ii^^^^^^^^^H^H cox (Chait'man)7i|^^^^^^^^H| Dr. Hewson The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The necessity of a pound being erected at Otaki township was Ailly discussed, when the following resolution was proposed by Dr. Hewson, seconded by Mr McCrae, and carried ;— -"That this Board is of opinion that it is necessary that a Public Pound be erected at Otaki, and that Mr James Oootes is a fit and proper person to act as poundkeeper." It having been reported to the Board that Thos. Roach, of Ohau ferry, had refused to pay his rates, the followiug resolution was passed upon the motion of Mr McCrae, seconded by Dr. Hewson :—" That the Chairman of the Board wait upon the Licensing Commissioners at their next meeting, and take their opinion as to the propriety of Thomas Eoach, a half-caste who refuses to pay rates, holding a Publican's License." The Board fixed the next meeting for Monday, September 20, jit 2-^ t ui.
