. 0Mr Stout, although temporarily retired from the political arena, has not lost sympathy with the Liberal cause. Ho is to address a public meeting at Dunedin next Weak, in that behalf. Mr D. S. Simpson, ouuiuoor to the Harbor Board, and Mayor of Moruingtou, intends to siaud for the R>syln seat. Mr U. Huddlestone, of Chrislchurch, who i-j about to settle at Nelson, will contest the Colliugwood seat with Mr Gibbs. There will be a good number of candidates in the Liberal interests at Christchurch. Iv addition to Sir George Grey, Mr Andrew Duuoau will stand on the Liberal side. Mr Joseph Ivess, proprietor of the Ashburton Mail, and formerly proprietor of the Patoa paper, is a probable candidate for Coleridge. At last general election Mr Ivess opposed Major Atkinson for the Egmont seat, ami was beaten. District Judge Ward was asked to stand for Ti naru, on the Opposition ticket, but declined owing to the large amount of unfinished Court work on hand.-?. Mr Turn bull, the sitting member, is a strong supporter nf the Government, and is likely to be returned. Mr Elward Waknfield is likely to retain his seat for Garaldiue. Should the Government ba ouscel by Sir Wm. Fox, Mr Wakelield, if returned, will probably receive a portfolio. Mr Stulholme will in all probability be again returned for tin Gladstone seat. "For the Wellington seats, there are numerous candidates Mr 11. Levin has accepted a requisition fivtn about 460 voters. He annouuce3 himself as a Liberal in politics, but makes no statement as to whother he would support or oppose the Government. He believcss representation should be fixed on tha basis ot" population and acebpts Triennial Parliaments, and an income lax. It is generally thought Mr Levin's chances of election are very good. Mr George Fisher, avlio has for some few years past taken great interest in municipal politics, has also announced himself as a candidate. Ho has for some time past been employed upon the Hansard stalF. He will probably stand on tho " working man's" tioket. Mr Hutchison announces himself as a strong supporter of. the Ministerial programing. Mr \V. H. Quick, lawyer, stands for tho Hutt against Air Jackson. He supports manhood suffrage, secular education, triennial Parliaments, but strongly opposes Sir George Grey. It is very doubtful if he will oust Mr Jackson. That gentlenuu was elected only a mouth ago, and h;:sdo:ie nothing to forfeit tho confidence of his supporters. He stands upon precisely tho same platform as that upon which ho was elected. Mr 0. B. Izird announces himself as a candidate for the Wellington Country District, ugui'ist Mr Brandon He will oppose the Grey Government, but professes himself in t'.ivour of some of the reforms indicated iv tho Governor's speech. He will support triennial Parliaments, readjustment ot the representation, and tux upau incomes abovd a certain amount, but opposes the Land Tax. He also declares his iuteution of strongly supporting the West Cuast Ruilway scheme.
