la consequence of the slackness of the [ timber trade, and the commercial depression I geaerally, Sawmill Proprietors and others of the Manawatu have found it necessary to very materially reduce the price of timber in order to successfully resist thu importation of both timberorid graia from abroad. With this object in view, they have found it necessary (temporarily) to reduce the rate of wag-js during the present winter to the following rates, coming into operation on tho first day of June now next ensuing : — Sawkeepers, per day of 8 hours 10s Banohmen \q s Tailmen . . 8s Vertical men 63 to 7s Engine drivers gi Bush hands 6s to 7s Bullock drivers, wither, 9s ; summer, 8s Horse drivers.. .. 6s 0d to 7s Ordinary hands about mill, truck loaders, and others (is Boys 4s to 5s Feilding, 20th May, 1879.
