Fixaxcsxo. — The Palmerston Borough Funds must bo in a bad way. A few days ago, glancing over the charge-sheet of the R. M, Court there, we found a man charged wiih a breach of the " Palmerston Borough Bye laws," in being drunk and disorderly on a certain date. Wo did not fcimw before that drunkenness was a breach of Oity bye laws, it being generally described in the informations as a breach of the Armed Coastabie Act, which superseded the old Police tforce Ordinance of the Province of Wellington. The real explanation, however, is supposed to be, that the fines for breaches of the Borough of Palmeraton Bye laws go to the municipal exchequer ; and in virtue of his couvic position Mr Mayor Suelson occupied the Bench on tho day referred to. Whether tho fine has reached the Borough account, deponent eayeth not. But really, this is good financing.

Accident. — On Sunday last, a sad accident took place near Jilackie's, Horokiwi, by wticli a spring cart containing Mr and Mrs Nicuol and their four children were upset, cart, horse, &<?, falling ovor a precipice 40 feet deep. Mrs Nichol and two of tha children are dangerously wounded. The road at the point where the accident took place is very narrow and dangerous.
