FATAL ACCIDENT AT WAINUIOMATA.
A correspondent writes: —It is my painful duty to record tlie death of "a young settler, Mr. W. "Wakeham, of Wainui, the evident result of being thrown from a bucking horse. Somo fe*y days ago Mr. Watoham was about to carry out the wish of a sick neighbor. In order to do this it was necessary to ride eooae twenty miles. Iraedioal advice was. obtained, and as there was uu outward sign of damage tloue, it was expected, tuat in a fi»w days he would oe able to resume bis work as before. With tho exception of a headache and unusual drowsiness, there did not appear to be any distressing symptoms lor bouio time. These rather unpleasant feelings wore staved oil' ior a while by a little exercise, and attention to some light work. Un the evening of February sth he walked oui to,a friend's house, returned home, took fl his supper, aud seemed quite cheerful. Beiore he retired to rest he read a portion of the Bible, and soon afterwards lay down to sleep. About half an hour alter this he startled the inmates of the house by shouting out, " Oh my head." His sister, as soon as possible, rushedinto ihe room, and he begged her to do something to relieve his intense sufferings, ahe pain quickly increased, until he was in perfect agoB y > and seemed as if his senses had quite left him. In a very Bhort time, some half an hour, he became quite unconscious, and remained so during the night, until about half past nine oclock in the morning when he breathed his last.— N. Z. Times.
