It ha* been pointed out to us that no Registrar of Cattle Brands, resides in the ?I:mawatu District, and that cattle owners desiring to register their bran Is ore compelled to do so at Wangnnui. This appear* to ba a very grave oversight, and one which should be remedied at once. During the last live years, the farming interest h.i* grown with sucli rapid strides in the iWanawatu, that an officer of tho kind iudica'ed has become a necessity. We understand Mr F. Ji. Hickson, of Wangtmui, who al*o holds the position of Sheep ond Cattle Inspect;.))', U Registrar of Cattle Brands for tho district north of Manuwatu, Mr J. 11. Marriott, of Wellington, being Registrar for the District south of our river. Under those circumstance.*, it will be seen that retfi-tiation involves n considerable atrouut of unnecessary trjub'e upon farmer* and station holders. The difficulty might be easily obviated by appointing Mr W. Simpson (Sheep Inspector), to the position. \Vo understand Air Simpson at present ia Regirtnirof sheep brmijs, an I also very kindly forwards to the omVe at Wanganui any cattle brands to be registered. It would, however, be more satisfactory if Mr Simpson rceeived an i.ppoiatnient as Registrar for tho Otuki-Manawatu district.
