A WICKED HOAX.
A fun-lovino Brooklyn man removed the settiug from his big gold ring the other day, leaving a marked and decided vacancy. He gets on a street car, holds his hand so that the ring must be seen, and pretty soon a man bends forward and remarks . " Excuse me, sir, but you have lost the set out of your ring." " So I have," replied the owner, as lie looked oil the floor. JSvery passenger began to peer around, and the man who had made the discovery at length asks : "Was it a valuable set?" "It was a thousand-dollar diamond," was the calm reply. There was another movement on the part of the passengers. Some looked along tho seat, some under it, and some make a dive for pea buttons and other small articles. ■ • V "When did you miss ib?" asked the fivsfc man, as the search weakened a littlo. " A year and a half ago, when I was attending 1 a camp-meeting iv Illinois !" was the sad reply. Then every passenger straighten* up, every eye looks into vacancy, and not the faintest smile can be seen on any face. A person boarding the car just theu would wonder what great man in the city had died, and it' the passengers wore on their way to take a look at his remains.
