A nice young man employed in the Kansas Pacific office resolved the other day to present his beloved girl with a nice pair of shoes. 110 accord^ ingly procured her measure and went into ono of the fashionable boot stores on Main-street and purchased a two dollar pair of shoes. She was covinced that her lover had been cheated in the purchase of such a pair of shoes at that price. She decided to go and change the shoos and obtain a better bargain. Yesterday she appeared in the slot o and selected a pair of shoes, prije 3\ dols, and politely requested the clerk to take back the shoes for which she said her husband had paid 5 dols. The receipted bill was produced in proof, and the boot man found it impossible to go " behind the returns." The smart girl took her 3J dols pair of shoe3, and obtained 11 dols in money, and went homo happ3 r and satisfied, 'i he bootseller sent a bill for 3 dols to the young man, who piomptly paid the difference, but he thinks that girl a little too tmart for him.
