The following is tho list paragraph of tho report of a committee of the Lower House, appoints! to inquire the charges made by Mr ISartnn against tho Wellington 1\ lire : -" In conclusion, the committee desire to record their deliberate opinion that no police system will bo fatisfu tory which allows officers and meu to re« main too long in one place. Even if theiv judgment 'locs not become warped by local influences, they are subject to the suspicion of being so influenced , The evidence taken before this committee, and the de* meanor and expressions of the witnesses, reveal a few of tho consequences of offending the police, which leaves a painful impression. One of tbe advantages to be obtained by the establishment of a New Zealand police force is the possibility of removing officers and men from one place to another from time to time. The committee recommend the periodical transfer of police officers from one station to another." The Government have commenced to act upon the recommendation in the report that a periodical removal of police inspectors from one city to another should take place, Inspector Atcheson having been notified tha he is to be sent to JNelson. His successor is not yet named.
