(reuteu's special to pbess agency.) London, October 26^1^ The Russiau papers unanimously advocate i ml irect aid to the Ameer of Afghanistan. It is rumored that Mr C iirt s, the ex-Governor of Queensland, is to be appointed the next Govenor of New Zealand. The wool market is inactive, with dropping prices. The next sales are expected to show a decline. New Zealand wheat is 41s to 455. The directors of the Glasgow Bank have made an immediate call of £600 per share. A terrible gale at Philadelphia destroyed numorous edifices, and twenty-five churches, and hundreds of dwellings were damaged. There was much loss to shipping. A great number of people were killed and injured. Calcutta, October 25. Affairs on the frontier continue much the same. The concentration of troops is proceeded with in readiness for war. It is stated that the Ameer, in reply to the Sultan, distinctly refuses to admit England's mission into Cabul, or have anything to do with the British Government. A friendly feeling by the frontier tribes is generally manifested towurds England. There is much sickness at Peshawar. Paris, October 24. The Prince of Wales received a deputation at the British Embassy, who presented an address from the Colonial Commissioner to the Exhibition, thanking His Highness for suggesting the fouading of a Colo*, nial Museum in London under the patronage of the Princess of Wales. The Prince promised to assist the movement if the desire of the Colo* nial Governments were communicated to him. Constantinople, October 22. An insurrectionary movement is on foot in Bounielia and Macedonia, with the object of obtaining a union with New .Bulgaria. (Sydney, November 1. The Assembly has approved of the contract for a duplicate cable. The clause giving the colonies power to purchase was withdrawn.
