THE NEW GUINEA EXPEDITION.

(post special.) •Sydney. The New Guinea expedition is a total failure. The various parties are in a state of extreme destitution, and are suffering severely from fever. Nothing has been discovered in the way of gold or anything else to support them. Numbers are in a most wretched condition at Port Moresby, but unable to return to Australia. It has been proposed to send a vessel to the rescue of these unfortunate people. (per press agency.) Sydney. Trouble is anticipated between the whites and the natives in New Guinea ; 160 warriors have gone into the interior. There is no news of the Goldie Biver prospectors, and fears are entertained for their safety.
