CojiiiiTrEE Meeting

A meeting of the Committee at the Sandon end was held on Saturday evening. There was a good attendance. The committee accepted the proposed classification of the land in the district, according to Mr Thynne'splan, and agreed that the following rates would raise the o per cent required on the £30,000.- estimated cost, viz: — First-class land, 4d per acre ; second-class, 3d; third-class, 2d; the rating of the towns — Poxton and Snndon — was estimated to bring in £250. When it is remembered that the Rakaia reople have rated themselves at 9d, Bd, and 7d, for the respective classes of hind, wo do not think the proposed rute a heavy one. The Sandon meeting has referred the further consideration of the matter to the Foxton committee, which meets in a few days
