BLINDED SOLDIERS
MR CLUTHA MACKENZIE'S ' PROPOSAL.
0 [Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Aug. 12
A proposal that a fund of £20,000 be established for the future care of New Zealand blinded soldiers ■was made to the Advisory Board of the war relief societies by Mr Clutha Mackenzie this morning.
"So far," he said, "blinded soldiers have been looked after very well, but we should look to the future and draw up a definite plan. There are twenty-five blinded soldiers in New Zealand. Their future should be provided for. The beat way to make them happy is to keep them busy by giving them plenty to do. Poultry farming is specially suitable for such men. Blind men cannot, make this pay. and I suggest, therefore; that a definite- fund be created, by which the e;irnines of those men - may be subsidised £1 for £1." ' \ Sixteen societies, said Mr Mackenzie, had approved of his scheme. Tho commercial travellers fund for blinded soldiers totalled £3365.
