ARRIVALS FROM HOME
THE RIMUPAKA'S COMPLEMENT
By the liner Rimutaka, which arrived at Wellington yesterday from Southampton, there were 323 passengers, of whom a large percentage were immigrants. Several details of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force were on board, while there were also others wearing war service ribbons. The new arrivals bore a fine healthy, appearance (says the Post), this being specially noticeable in regard to the womenfolk and the children. About 100 were nominated, and nearly as many had come out under the Imperial Government's overseas settlement scheme. The ranks of tho males included tradesmen of various descriptions—clerks, farmers, etc. ; in fact, they comprised r^vcry mixed class as regards cccupction, Among the women were a few domestics, while a large number were married. In most cases the immigrants were met by relatives and friends, and one of the- first to land received a flattering reception with showers of confetti. Arrangements in connection with the landing and completion of travel to various destinations throughout the Dominion were satisfactorily carried out, the Immigration authorities arranging for most passengers to proceed either north or south'this evening. Throughout tho voyage, which was made via Newport News and the Panama Canal, sports and entertainments provided plenty of enjoyment. Mild outbreaks of measles and diphtheria brofco out, but the of the patients had recovered on arrival. Only two cases, one of men.sles and the other of diphtheria, required fm'ther attention, which will be given at the hospital. Otherwise the voyage was uneventful, tho weather 'being generally fairly good. At one or two stages some fairly heavy seas and winds were encountered! notably just before reaching New Zealand.
