A SUCCESSFUL SEASON

The annual general meeting of the Koromiko Co-operative Dairy Factory Company, Ltd., was held on Saturday in the school at Koromiko. About 20 shareholders were present Mr James Randall, chairman ot directors, occupied the cliair. . THE REPORT. • In submitting the second annual report and balance-sheet for the year {ending June 30th, 1920), the directors congratulated the suppliers on the steady progress made. The «eason commenced on August 25th, 1919, and ended en June 11th, 1920. The supply of milk was well maintained throughout the season.. The total quantity of cheese made for the season was 103 tons Cewt. 2qrs. 12nSs., which should be most encouraging in the future. Notwithstanding the factory, grade was 89.84, there was still room for further improvement, and it was hoped that «aeh supplier would assist the manager in his endeavors to produce the best possible, for "he could not make good cheese, however anxious and able he might be to io so, unless h& got good, clean milk. Annual Statement': Milk received, 2,345,6361b5.; highest test, '6.00; loewst test, 3.1: average test, 3./b; butter fat, 88,3781b5.; lbs. cheese to butter fat, 2.60; lbs. milk to lbs. cheese, 10.10; number of suppliers, ' 27: number of cows, 476; lbs. cheese made, 231,348; number ,of crates shipped to "Wellington, 1336; number Ibsf whey butter made, 729; number lbs whey cream, 10.089; average test whey cream, 44.27; butter fat contents whey cream, 4463. The cheese was purchased by the Imperial Government and paid for at the rate of 10Id per lb. f.0.b.. Wellington, with a deduction of 1\ per cent, fcr shrinkage. This agreement expired on July 31st, 1920, and the indications were that there would he a free market for the coming season s cheese. According to the National i>ar% Association it anticipated that next season's cheese should nett from Is 2d to Is 3d per lb. The directors desired to place on record their appreciation of the service* rendered to the company b"y Messrs A. B. Clemens and W. J. T>avey, who have been on the directorate since the inception of the company, and had resigned owing to their departure from the district. It was decided that the company s financial year be June 30th each year. The profit and loss account showed a credit balance of £1231 16s sd, and

must be considered satisfactory for the company's first year. It would not be necessary to write off any amount for depreciation. As usual, tho manager's efforts in the interests of shareholders have been exercised to the fullest extent and with marked success. It was a further matter for con- , gratulation that the directors were able to pay an additional 3^d per lb., making Is BJd nett on all butter fat received for the season. RESOLUTIONS. Mr J. Mills moved* that the report and balance-sheet bo adopted. This was seconded by Mr W. Freeth and carried unanimously. A motion notified by Mr B. Bragg, that no shareholder bo appointed a director of the company unless he supplied milk to the company, w,as seconded by Mr J. Mills and carried. The chairman brought up the question of fuel for the coming season s operations. Last season, it was stated, all wood was used. This season so far no tenders bad been received. It was resolved thati those suppliers who have plenty of wood on their property tender for from 10 to 20 cords!! With the help of coal, it was said, tho position would thus, be relieved. . The retiring directors, Messrs H. O Western and W. J. Bright, who were opposed by Mr B. Bragg, were re-elected.' . , Mr R. Wanden was re-oppomted auditor. The prospects for the coming season were considered very bright. The directors have already ordered another 850-gallon cheese vat, and expect a big increase of milk over last .season. . At a subsequent meeting ot tho directors, Mr James Randall was reelected chairman of directors for the ensuing term.
