PREPARATIONS FOR WELCOME
ANXIOUS AUTHORITIES
Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received Aug. 6, 10.35 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 5. The Irish organisation at Liverpool ■.declares that Archbishop Mannix will receive the greatest welcome accorded to any Irishman in Liverpool, where he is due on Sunday evening or Monday morning. Contingents from many Lancashire towns will participate, as their religious feelings are likely to be deeply stirred. The authorities are anxious, and are taking great precautions. The public- will be excluded from the dock and the arrival will be kept .as secret as possible. There is even . a possibilty of the ship being •diverted to another port. The Cork City Corporation will : send a deputation to confer the freedom of the city on Archbishop Mannix. The Sinn Fein executive at Cork ..ordered the people to hang flags on Sunday in honor of Archbishop Mannix. The Sinn Feiners in the south of Ireland have arranged a ~ series of bonfires along the coast, but the Baltic is likely to take the northern route.
