RIVAL RAILWAYS
DEPUTATION TO MINISTERS
[Press Association.]
WELLINGTON, Aug. 5
A deputation from the Rotorua Railway League and Waiotapu settlors met the Prime Minister and the Ministers for Land and Public Works requesting the right to submit evidence before the Commission regarding the extension of the Taupo Timber Company's line. The Ministers stated that they had no objection to this, but the Commission was set uj> to decide the main line question. It was not suggested that the Taupo line would ever become a. main line. The Hon. Mr Outline said that the deputation would do no good-by ■raising the question of rival routes, as tliis would only stir up the Rangitaiki settlers, " whose claim was a strong one. A request by Mr Hockley for the Commission to decide whether the Rotoru.v-Taupo line should be constructed was favorably received, but the Ministers said that there \yas no hope of commencing tho line in the immediate future.
