SEVERAL REMITS PASSED.

The. following remits were adopted, all from Southland:—

"That the rate of interest which may be paid under section 40 of the Electric Power Boards Act bo increased." The present rate is 5£ per cent. "That tho Government shall guarantee loans negotiated by duly constituted electric power boards."

"That a separate branch of tht? Public Works Department be set up to carry out the entire work of design, construction* generating, and supply of electric power in respect of all-Government schemes; and that an immediate appointment be made of a board to advise and assist the Minister in control of such department."

"That the Customs duty on electric plant and materials , imported by duly constituted power boards be remitted."

Remits were carried that a clause he added to the principal Act (section 57) to embody a specific provision empowering a board to purchase I, existing works ;* that a uniform and complete costing system be adopted by regulation on all construction works undertaken by any power board so that the total expenditure may be correctly apportioned to the various works; also that a yearly financial statement of- the operations of oach board be made in detail on a uniform system ; that the principal Act be amended to permit of boards being alternately formed by specific order passed by each governing local body in the inner area, of the proposed district, the power boards to eon-.e under definition of "local authority" in all statutes.

A remit from Palmorston ■ North, recommending that local bodies may by resolution agree to join other than a. contiguous local body or bodies for the distribution of electric power, was lost.
