THE LADIES' EFFORTS.

Tho ladies of Blenheim and surrounding districts are playing no* unimportant part in tho Wateriermovement. Many of* them are Wateriea enthusiasts of a high order. The "Fortnight,'' which, commence* on Saturday next, will be marked by a series of efforts on the part of the ladies to raise funds. The firs-fc-shot in the campaign will be fired on Saturday, when the ladies of theGrove Road, Main Street, South Side, and Weld Street districts will join forces in a sale of work and produce. The shop recently vacated by Williams and Moseley will bo occupied for the occasion. • The Boy Scouts will be a valuable adjunct to the ladies' organisation. They will be responsible for a delivery system which should b» generally appreciated. The shep will be open on Friday afternoon and. several ladies will be in attendance for the reception of contribution*Those who cannot send in their gifts are asked to ring;up Miss Hay (Hit-

Further efforts will be made by the ladies as follows: — Thursday, Aug. 12: Maxwell Roa* and High Street districts. Saturday, Aug. 14': Springlands and Frtrnham districts. Thursday, Aug. 19: ' 'Country Aug. 21: "Violet Dnv." The ladies of. the Lower Wairsro district are joining forces with thosewho are concerned in next Saturday's effort. Other country districts are combining to ensure the success of "Country Day."

ENTERTAINMENTS

A choice entertainment has been arranged to take place in His Majesty's Theatre on Monday nextv Details cannot be divulged until Friday next. . . , The entertainment m His Majesty s Theatre on Wednesday next will reveal a number of local citizens as exponents of nigger minstrelsy. Burnt corks will be utilised to' give effectto "The Scarlet Runners," and a programme of exceptional merit has been arranged. Mr W. M. Lambie will be the interlocutor of the troupe. Special interest, is centred in appearance of Miss Bertha Manson, who has been on Fullers' Australian circuit for some time. A picture „ programme will also be screened, and the Returned Soldiers' Orchestra wi» render musical items. The plain and fancy dress function, under the style of "The Waterfea Ball," whicjf is to be held m »t. Patrick's Hill on Friday of next week, is regarded as one of the principal attractions of the "Fortnight. Tickets are now on sale, and a spectacular treat is promised.
