AMUNDSEN'S ADVENTURES
BURIED IN THE ICE.

The correspondent of the Times at Christiania states that a dramatic story of Arctic hardships is described in Captain Amundsen's letters from East Cape. Amundsen's ship, Maud, was buried in the ice during two extraordinarily hard winters, only her masts remaining above the surface. No sound reached the entombed explorers, except the puddling of the bears in the snow manses above decks. The splendid construction of the vessel withstood the attacks of tho
and narrowly escaped with his life. Subsequently he fell from the ship to the ice, breaking his arm. A new land was discovered and scientifically explored near Tsar Nicholas 11. Land, and the customs and manners of the surrounding Esquimo tribes were thoroughly studied.,
