(.Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, July 30 Generally the market is wliat the merchants describe as "sick." The definite nature of the Commonwealth Government's -refusal to remove the jotato embargo shatters, all hope- ot the big surplus here-finding an outlet. Potatoes are now scarcely quotable, and it is reported that northern merchants who bought heavily forward at rates from £5 to as high as £7 per ton f.0.b., sacks in, and who • consequently must be heavy losers, are offering their purchases back at d£3 10s. Merchants generally continue to "sit tight" on their oat holdings,' although occasional sales have been ir.ade at 5s 3d f.0.b.. sackn in. Agricultural seeds are the medium of some business, whites clover being at free request. Up to 2s 5d has been paid for clover, it is understood for rshipment home.

Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, July 29. At the Liverpool wool sales 23,000 bales of Australian, and 5500 bales of New Zealand were offered and sold .at late London rates.
