Many families, fearing reprisals, are fleeing from the towns.
A large armed, party heJd up two military motorrlorries conveying troops from Macroom, in Bantry, a wild and desperate district. After a surprise attack the soldiers surrendered. The raiders removed their rifles and ammunition and stores, burned the motor-lorries, and then released the soldiers.
