PELORUS ROAD BOARD.

At the monthly meeting of the Pelorusi Road Board the following members \vdro present: Messrs O. Noes (chairman), C. Leov, 13: Thompson, O. Bryant, and A. Weaver. Leavo of absence was granted to Messrs J. Kennington and C. Hart. With regrad to the amount of the grant put in for a swing bridge at Opouri by Mr Lango, the secretary was instructed to look ' p the amount and find how the rr.oney was voted. It was .res-olyed to allow Messrs Foster and Gill 4i fid j;er yard for metalling 22 chains of road in the Ronga. An amendment that they be allowed 4s per chain lapsed for the want of a seconder.

A deputation from the Town Board waited on the Board with reference to the bad state of the Mudflat road, and, after the matter had been thoroughly discussed, it; was resolved that the Town Board be granted the services of the inspector to give a repoirt to the Town Baard on the Mudflat load and to supervise the repairs to it. ' Messrs Nees (chairman), Leer, Bryant, and Weavm- reported that they • had journeyed to Waikakaho and met members of the Picton Road Board and settleiT,, and viewed the ix>ad, and that it had been decided to persist in the application for grants of £200 to the j^lnrus Road Board and £100 to. the Victon Read Board, the question of which body shaill control the road to l>e gone into later if the grants were made. It was resolved that this Board join in with the other local bodies in forwarding the. hydro-electric scheme, find that Messrs Nees ' and Weaver attend ony future meetings in ecnneetion wuith this, and report the outcome to this Board. Messrs- J. Elliott and H. A. Crispin waited on the Beard as representatives of the Canvastovm Farmer.';' Union in reference to car liire for the conveyance of the electrical engineer to the Polorus bj-idge. After considerable discussion it was resolved that the sum. of £5 be granted to the Farmers' pinion. A let-tar was received from the secretary of the Marl borough Automobile Association .inquiring if in the Board's opinion "here were any dangerous places on the Board's road, &nd, if so,the Board woidd be ulling to erect-signboards if the same weie supplied by the- Associa-Tion. -~ The secretary was instructed to fonumniicate with the Association asking for about 12 bcn.rds, to be* erected in various places on the main arterial road. The'Omaka Road "Hoard forwarded a statement of accounts for the resorve for the year-ending 31st March, 1920.—1t was resolved that the statement of accounts be received, and that the Board recommend that instead of spending all the revenues for the coming year on fencing the mservo more money be spent on the upkeep of the fords at the Opawa. The secretary was instructed to writ© to a sawmill owner and inform him that the waggon licenses from his mill had not been paid, and V"11^ out to him that iJie time given for these licenses to lie paid had expired. In regard td Mr Gibson's water rights, the secretary vras instructed to write to the trustee f.nd inform him that unless the bridge across the water-race, which was in a bad stute of repair, was renewed imnxdiatcly tho Board would remove the bridge and charge the amount to him. It was moved that Mr Lange be paid £'-1. in sottlement of his claim in connection with the erection of the swing bridge at the Opouri. It wa.s resolved that the. inppGct-«r be instructed to attend to any urgent wot-.': which required doing during the month. The rates as struck at the last mooting uf tho Board wei'e duly confirmed. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr Baigont requesting him to uso more discretion in using bis waggons on the road in pory bad weather, and inform him that unless this was done the jioard would be c-TBiipiVllecl to clo.se this road during the winter months. The secretary was instracted to write to tho Minister for PublicWorks asking him to recommend the completion of the Ronga^roixelles road. It was resolved that york to the extent of £10 be carried out on Lambert's raad. Accounts totalling £873 7s were passed for payment.
