PRICE OF BLANKETS
'SOME CONCERN IN AUCKLAND.
The price of blankets has been causing some concern at Auckland. In a recent issue of the Herald the following letter appeared signed by the secretary of .{the Auckland Drapers' Union:—"ft has been brought under our notice that at a meeting of the Soldiers' Mothers' League it was stated that the local price of blankets is four or five times the price at which they are being sold in London. This is utter nonsense, and on a par with many other rumors that circulate from time to time with reference to profiteering in the soft goods trade here. Fortunately, we can trace the source of this particular misstatement. _ It appears that an advertisement in a Home paper, quoting full-size extra heavy fleecy blankets 19s lid per pair, and grey sheets 19s lid per pair, is the reason for the above statement. Now, it is impossible to produce, at Home or anywhere else, woollen blankets answering to this description at this price. The advertisement must refer to cotton blankets. From a recent list supplied by a reliable British blanket manufacturer the lowest wholesale prices quoted for full-size blankets are: Wool and cotton mixture, 45s 6d per pair; all wool, 87s per pair. Horrocks' wholesale price at Home for grey sheets, 2£ and 2-2, Was 353 2d per pair, and good grey twilled sheets can be bought retail in this city for 35s per pair."
