POLITICAL SCIENCE
DUNEDIN, Jan. 27. At the University Senate Professor Wall moved that in the M.A. and' M.Sc. degrees honors be not awarded if the degree is obtained more than six years after matriculation. Professor Ma?millan Brown moved an addition by way of amendment, viz., "That the Chancellor have discretion in the case of illness to extend the period for one year." The amendment was lost and the! motion carried by 11 to 8 and referred, to tho Statutes Committee.
It was resolved that the matter of concessions to entrance scholars ?<nd the question of awarding distinction, or some form of honors at the B.A. stage be referred' to the principals of secondary schools and to the professorial boards for report to the Board of Studies and the Senate, and that Mr Tibbs be invited to draw up a memorandum on the subject to be circulated to those bodies.
The Senate unanimously resolved that the new subject of political science be substituted for jurisprudence and constitutional history in the arts course. The matter was referred to teachers of histoiy, law, and philosophy, -. to draw up: a prescription for the new subject and report to the Board of Studies.
