WANING HOPES OF SETTLE-

Matters in connection with the mai'ine engineers' strike are apparently at a standstill. The hopes of a settlement appear be waning. In the meantime unemployment and inconvenience resultant from the shipping tie-up are increasing. A number of factories • have or have red iced their hours. *
