, Chaff has gone up to £6 15s to '£"7 per ton, and the market is jlist as active as it can be. Very little is offering, not much chaff being left in the, district.
There is a keen demand for lucerne seed mainly for export, and all available stocks are being cleaned up. Supplies are ' going forward to Argentine and Europe. Even old stocks that have been in hand for two years are being requisitioned. Lucerne seed retains its germinating power for years, though it may lose some, of its color. The price level has not changed, much. The stocks of hay are pretty well exhausted. The new crops are coming on splendidly. The recent rain has brought the cereal crops on in promising style. The oats, ( .,will,,soon .be out in ear. Tliere lias been a..very extensive sowing of oats and peas, but the barley area has been decreasing if. anything.
