THE SHIPPING SITUATION.
EAItLY IMPROVEMENT EXPECTED. Indications of an early improve- i merit in the shipping situation, with, j special reference to the frozen meat i industry ? were given by Mr Massey j in replying to a deputation of farm- ■ ers at Wellington on Friday. Mr J Massey said that to reduce the ; amount of meat in store to the amount of four million carcases by the end of the year, some two mil- j lion, carcases would ha/ye to be ship- . ped during October, November, and. j December. So far as he could see,, [; it would be possible to do this. Eight ; ships per month for the three months, would be needed, and present indica- * tions were that the ahips would be j available. During August there i would be on the berth the following j vessels: —Mania, Port Pirie, Ar- ! magh, Shropshire, Ruapehu, Poart I Napier, Orari, Otira, Matatua, Wai- '. mate, and Opawa. Still to come— ■ but the dates of their arrival were \ not yet definitely known—were the ', Essex, Mamari, Port Hacking, Bur- j ham, Port Lyttelton, Waiwera, j A theme. In September the following j ships were scheduled to arrive: ■— . Karamea, Port Melbourne, Port Vie- ■ tor, Ktuiiiira, Hoxorata, Raikoura, j Ajana, Corinthie, Tainui, Zealandie, Port Alma, and Port Sydney. ■
