Miss Carrie Lanceley, the English prima-donna, and iier "melody maids" will pay a short visit to Blenheim next Wednesday.
A London cablegram states that Sir Joseph Ward will sail by the Mauretania 011 the 27th, and join the Niagara at Vancouver.
There passed away at his residence on Tuesday last, another of the fast diminishing band of old identities of Morlhorough, in tho person of Mr Jiunes Bartlett, aged 80 years. Mr Bartlett lauded in Nelson by the ship Sir George Pollock on September Ist, IS6I, and one year later came to the Wairau, where he had resided ever since., He saw much of the vicissitudes of pioneer life, and his reminiscences of the early days of the sixties were always interesting and amusing. He followed the trade of a decorator, retiring from business some 20 years ago. In his day he was a keen supporter of tho Seddoa Government, and was an active member of Mr T. L. Buick's committee, when that' gentleman lepresen ted-the Wairau in the House of Representatives. He v\ as one of the oldest Masons in Marlbcrough, having joined Lodge Unanimity at an early date. Latterly his impaired tight obliged him to lead a retired life. He leaves a widow, four sons, and four daughters—Messrs G. Bartlett, L. C. Bartlett, A. W. Bartlett, of Blenheim; Mr, A. E, Bartlett (on active service); and Mrs J. W. Kirby (Nelson), . -Mrs W. Mears .(Cbristchurch), Mrs E. Wqadford (Christohurch) and Miss Bartlett (Blenheim). The interment was a private one, and took place on Thursday morning. ' ■ .
