Colonel Giboofr, who has been Chief vof General Staff" for the whole of the war period and is now returning to England,1 was. the guest of honor at . a. private dinner given by tho Minister for Defence last night. Opportunity was also taken to say farewell to Colonel Hiley, late General Manager for Railways, who has acted as, Director of Works for the Defence Itepartnionfc
The ivork of the officers was eulogised by Sir James Allen, the Hon. Mr Mac Donald, and General Robin. % Sir James Allen said that Colonel Gibbon had been the mainstay of tho Department in spurring it on to maintain the reinforcements bo that the division, might be kept up to full strength. - General ttobin said that the cost of camp obstruction in New Zealand compared raore than favorably with other countries. This was largely due to Colonel Hiley's work. .Both officers expressed appreciation of the,..,\7ork of ' the Minister;-.- lor ,'Uefe"nce and the local support of -their 'staffs.
