REDUCED OUTPUT OF COAL.
MINERS DISINCLINED FQJI PIECEWORK.
LONDON, June 7. Giving evidence before the Coal Commission Sir Richard Redmayne stated that the existing royalty-own-ing system was against the national interest. Compensation 10, royaltyowners on a basis of 12i years' purchase would amount to £70,000,000... There was a disquieting -fall in the ocal output, amounting to 9 per cent per person per shift, compared with pre-war times, partly attributable to the, miners backward state of development. The miners were less skilful, owing to long absence and high wages disinclining the miners to take to piecework. Sir Richard .Redmayne suggested that the miners' leaders should organise a crusade among the miners,, pointing out the serious consequences of a reduced output. *
