GREYMOUTH, May 3.
For some time past boring operations have* been in progress at the Mnc Mile, and the results su far have, exceeded anticipations. An analysis of the coal shows the vevy best quality, superior to that obtained at the Liverpool mine, and as steam coal it will prove equal to thei best in New Zealand. The area covered by tho new field is very extensive. The outcrop and borings show at least th-ir-; teen million tons of coal in sight, sufficient for 20 years. ! !
The mine is three miles from Runanga station. The country is flat and there are no engineering difficulties in the way of railway construction. The mine could be put into full working order in twelve mouths.
At a. large meeting at Runanga. last night, the Mayor presided. Mr Holland, »M.P., addressed the meeting. A resolution was passed that in view of the fact that \,he Elizabeth mine, was practically""worked out, the serious shortage in the Dominion's supply, and the famine prices, the Government be urged to proceed with the development of the ' Nine Mile serin. The resolution was forwarded to tho Acting-Premier and the Minister for Mines.
