A NURSE'S CLAIM
FOR SERVICES DURING EPIDEMIC.
CBIMSTCHTJRCH, April 29. [n the. Magistrate's Court yesterday, Florence Martha Lewis claimed £16, from the _ Ash burton Hospital Board 'for services rendered as a nurse in charge of a temporary hospital at Methven during the influenza epidemic from December sth to 25th, at,, £6 6s per week. The defendant Board counterclaimed for £20, the value of 42 mattresses, 65 pillows, and a carpet rtirincr wrongfully burned or destroyed vi the temporary hospital. Tho defendants contended that tho remuneration claimed by plaintiff as an unregistered nurse was excessive, and that IDs por day Avas a. fair rate of pay.
The Magistrate, sifter reviewing tho ■evidence, said that 13s 6d per day, .considering the circumstances, would be a fair rate of pay, and gave judgment for plaintiff for £12 3s. With regnrd to the eounter-elnmi, it was his opinion that Nurse Lewis had beon authorised to destroy the articles, and so would give judgment against'the Board, with costs.
