EPIDEMIC IN WESTLAND.
ONLY ONE DOCTOR AVAIL-
ABLE
HOKITIKA, Nov. 21. The epidemic for the week ended yesterday carried off four town residents, inelucTmg a recently returned soldier. Six country residents and one visitor died in the same period. Two town and two country residents died outside Westland.
The epidemic ir; now worses in the country. Only one medical man is available for the whole of Westland, and his services are confined to the town, where ■■the local and auxiliary hospital* are. situated. A medical student sent to assist here had to go to bed immediately o.i his arrival with the complaint/ 'It is considered that qualified medical advice for country patients will be of great value at this stage and representations have been lhade to the Government.
■ Local organisation includes a fine bod}' of willing workers, who arc assisting the authorities in every way possible. ■•■-.-.
