GOVERNMENT
(Received Nov. 21, 8.40 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 20
At a meeting of the Empire Parliamentary Association Mr Long's motion was carried 'congratulating the Dominion Parliaments that by the sustained self-sacrificing heroism of the Navies and Armies of the British commonwealth and the Allies the gigantic military autocracy had been for ever overthrown mid the triumph of Parlia/nentaiy Government had been achieved.
Mr Harcourt, in secomlir.g the motion, referred to the fact that "we had not lost a. single colony, although we were within twenty-four hours of losing the Falklands. There was grave danger in South Africa early in the war. Tho rebels got away with half the Union Government's war materials. We turned to Lord Kitchener for help to replenish the supplies. Lord Kitchener replied that he would not deplete this country of a single rifle."
Mr Harcourt added: "But vn a friendly country he found what was wanted. Ships wore loaded and sent to Africa in sixteen days. That was the most critical period South Africa liad ever undergone."'
The Association contemplates inviting delegations of Overseas Parliamentarians to come to England next year,, probably to see the historic battlefields of France.
