Mr L. Griffiths received word' yes•ferday of the, serious illness of his wife. He left for Nelson, en route tor j Tauranga, this morning.
Thoma«s Green, known as: the; father of Gore, the first Mayor andf a. successful business; man, died at Gore last night after a long, illness,! aged seventy-;nine years.
Mr Arthur Jeffries, second son of Mr T. Jeffries, Fairhall, died in Wellington on Tuesday afternoon from influenza. The deceased was 45 years of age, and was unmarried.
Dir. H. W. Cleary, Roman Catholics Bishop of Auckland, contracted influenza on Saturday. He is not seriously ill, and on Sunday was reported to be improving. The death, occurred in Wellington yesterday of Mr Henry W. Obem,,. oldest son of Mrs E. Oben, Blenheim.; The* decexsed, who was bom in Blenheim 41 years ago, leaves a widow and!' two, children. His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. J., Corry) is still progressing satisfactorily from an attack of influenza which Juts incapacitated him for, tho past ten days. Dr It. Noble-Adams, who has also been indisposed chiting a similar period, is now in the convalescent stage.
The latest deaths from influenza,' at> Dannevirko include Mr W. H. : Fartgill, manager of tlie Pannevirke branch of Barraad and Abraham, and well-known as a racing judge-- Ther deceased was taken ill on his-return! from the Riccarton Cup meeting, and, died on Tuesday.
The death occurred at Lyttelton on Saturday from pneumonia of Mr Artliur Crosbie, chief engineer of the* s.s. Breeze. Thd ,deceased, who was a. single man, 28 years of age, was bora in Nelson, being the eldest son of the late Mr 11. M. Crosbie, formerly of tho Solio Foundry, Nelson, and brother of Mrs G. Hogg, of Collingwood Street;
At the conclusion of tho sitting oE the Magistrate's Court at Clyde last?1 week, Mr Brodrick, on behalf of the Bar,'bade farewell to Mr J. Logan, Stout, Warden and Magistrate, whf> lui.s been transferred to Nelson and' Marlborougli. In doing so, Mr Brodrick said the work of the Court had gone along smoothly, thanks to the tact and courtesy of Mr Stout.
