PERSONAL.

Mr Robert Triggs, who has been appointed Public Trustee, will still retain his position as Controller of the Department of Imperial Supplies.

Sergeant A. C. Cooke, who was at one time in the employ of Mr F. I. Ledger, surveyor, of Nelson, has been awarded the Military Medal. Sergt. Cooke was a frequent visitor to Blenheim as a member of Nelson representative cricket teams.

Lieutenant Rupert Worley, son of Mr W. F. Worley, of Nelson, who has been awarded the Military Cross, left New Zealand with the Nineteenth Reinforcements. At the time of his enlistment he was in the employ of the Public Works Department at Okahura. On arrival in England, Lieut. Worley, who left with the New Zealand Infantry, was transferred to the New Zealand section of the Royal Engineers.

The death occurred on Thursday of Mr Walter Smith Kerr, of Wai-iti (states the Colonist). The deceased was a member of a well-known Nelson family, being the eldest son of, the late Mr David Kerr, of Blue Glen. He ha.d lived quietly at Wai-iti for the past few years. The deceased, whose death was unexpected, leaves a widow and two sons. He had been visiting his sister at Wai-iti, and shortly after leaving her place he was found dead on the road near the gate. The deceased was a brother of Mr John McKenzie, of Blenheim.

Lieutenant A. M. Finlayson, an Imperial officer, whose death from wounds is reported, was a brilliant young scientist, who won a travelling scholarship 10 or 12 years ago, and afterwards had a distinguished career at London University, having taken his D.C.C in geology; the first New Zealander to have earned such a distinction. I)r Finlayson secured a most lucrative position in the East, but relinquished this early in the war in order to go to England and enlist. The deceased soldier's father is the Rev. M. A. Finlayson, Waitati, Otago.

Prior to his departure for Motueka this week, Mr John Buist was the guest at a gathering which evidenced the popular nature of his lengthy associations with the Blenheim Bowling Club, of which he had been a, member for 25 years. In behalf of the bowling fraternity among which the departing townsman has enjoyed such general esteem, Mr A. B. Wright, the president of the club, presented Mr Buist with a purse of sovereigns and a memento in the shape of a gold-mounted fountain pen: and the president's words of farewell Avere supplemented by Mr C. H. Mills, Dr Noble-Adams, Mr ,G. Whelan, and Mr. J. Johnston. Mr Buist, iiX're-: spondirig, expressed the keen regret he felt in- parting with the many friends he had been accustomed to meet in bowling circles.

Mrs E. Powell, of Wellington, has received cable advice that her youngest son, William Harold, has arrived safely in England, and has again enlisted. Mr Powell will be remembered in certain circles as appealing against his inclusion in a ballot, as he was a wounded and discharged. Imperial soldier. Mr Powell held an English passport, and (after complying with the Appeal Board's instruction?) went to Anstraliay and whew stronger continued his journey to England. ]V:-rs Powell's eldest son, Chaplain E. C. W. Powell, of the Nineteenth Reinforcements, has recovered from his illness while at the front, and is on duty again. Second Lieut. Victor L. Powell, who was wounded at the begining of June, has had to return to hospital for operations, which unfortunately nave not 3'et been, thccessful.
