Some strange samples of reason and excuse are sometimes offered by reservists (says an Auckland paper). A novel explanation came the way of the Second Auckland Military Board at Te Kuiti. An .appellant named John Thompson, a cook, living at Awakino, stated his objection to service was that it would be a Tiardship for him to have to go to camp because the military camps in New Zealand had only dry canteens, while he was always used to using his own discretion. The appeal was dismissed.
