OUR GOVERNOR-GENERAL.
(Special Correspondent)
WELLINGTON, July 5. An article which appeared in The Maulborough Express on Monday under the heading "Our GovernorGeneral" is being warmly commended about the lobbies. The writer, alter congratulating Lord Liverpool upon his elevation to the dignity of a Governor-General and saying the pleasant things appropriate to the occasion, gently protests against his Excellency's disposition "to go beyond his legitimate constitutional functions and usurp the powers vwhich should properly be confined to the Ministerial representatives of the people." Many other journalists have been tempted to advise the Gov-ernor-General in this respect, but either their proximity to Government House or their regard for the conventions of society has restrained them, and his Lordship has been allowed to move about the country without knowing what the public think of his interference with a. number of matters which should be left to the untrammelled discretion of h.: responsible advisers. .
