We crouch togeblner in holes awaiting ow dooii!. wearing ,gas masks, ,as the JSng:ish fire 2,-as shells and hundi-ed-weightc of aerial torjpedoes. Trench work is iiapossible with shrapnel all night. So tar oitr disrision., composed of .three r-^g^entSj, has lost 3400 in barely thi«e months. We are -ipiite helpless against ihe JBritish.. We <eannot sib or ilie dowa. .Our ai-tiileiy cannot fire.. T©-day we all ihope to be made prisoners,, (otherwise we shall all go n:.ad."
