PERSONAL NOTES

Mr Alex. Alquist, of Canvastown; received word on Thursday that his oldest son, Private Charles- L. Alquist, has been killed in action. Be enlisted in one of the earlier Reinforcements. Private Andrew R«esfl, a wellKnown Christchurch architect, was killed in action on June 14. The deceased was a brother of Messrs T. W. Rpose and "Da*i" Reese, and was himself a cricketer of no mean ability. He was 30 years of age. "Mr H. M. Reader, "chairman of the Hafelock Harbor Board, has' received ihe sad intelligence that his eldest son. Private Frank D. M. Reader, who was previously reported wounded, .is now reports knlc? in action on Juno 7th.

Private Herbert Everett, a son of Mr L. Everett, of • XJmukuri, Nelson, who was wounded in the recent advance at Messines, has had his right foot amputated, and his left .leg below the knee. Hopes are^entertained that his arm will be saved.

Mr J. L.' D'Arcy-Jrvine, Government Surveyor, now in., Greymouth," has been advised that his second son, Corporal R. G. D'Arcy-Irvine, was buried by shell explosion, but escaped wounded. This is the second occasion on which he has been woundod. - Corporal D rArcy Irvine enlisted with the Main Body, and had been through all the principal fights with the New Zealand troops,, including the famous landing at Gallipoli. Mr Peter MacDonnld has received word that his ron. Private Charles Mac Donald, was killed in action on June 12. The deceased soldier, who was only 20 years of age, left with the Bth Reinforcements. This is the second son Mr and Mrs MacDonald have lost in the war. Trooper J Mac Donald having met his death at Anzac on July 7, 1915.

Private H. J. Avery, who was wounded on June 13, left with the I.lth Reinforcements. No particulars have been received by his refatives as to the nature of the wound.

' Mr E* Rowe, of Renwicktown, has received cabled information stating that his son, Private A. W. N. Rowe, was wounded in France on June 13th. Private Rowev enlisted in the Paeroa. district,, but was transferred to the Marlborouscb. contingent of the 15th Reinforcements. Another brother has enlisted, and goes forward nest month.
