After the vessel was, hit the submarine, hitherto unseen, emerged and fired while the boats were being lowered. : She hit . the Addah seven times. a
The sTibmarine came alongside the chief oflicer's boat before- the ship sank and put one of its officers and four men aboard- They proceeded to board the Addah. . After a couple of minutes thoy returned to the submarine. They told the chief officer's boat:to clear out.
Meanwhile the " master's boat, which had already been badly smashed by a shell, was thirty to forty yards distant., ~ The submarine fired shrapnel at the master's beat.' '• /A shell killed eight people and tore"the' Sitern right off. The submarine continued to shell the swimming m<*n after the boat had sunk Alter ihe submarine commander thought he had finished everybody in the master's boat he fired eight shrapnel shells at' the chief officer's) boat. Fortunately nobody was killed. Several were slightly wounded, iindvthe boat was badly damaged. The commander waved the. chief offirer to, go and pick up the master1 and other- swimmers and then made off:.
