The 'loath occurred at Leeston last week of Mr James Holley, an old and respected Canterbury settler, brother of the Very Rev. Dean Holley, Provincial of the. Marist Order in Now Zeainnd.

Sto'-c.s in Wellington, has retired from active duty in the Defence Department at his own request, after nearly thirty-nine years' continuous service, during sixteen years of whi'.:h ho was in charge of * the Defence Stores Branch.

Mr Fell was a keen snortsman, bci"ir part'.cularly interested in rowing. lie leaves a family of several sons and daughters, his wife having predeceased him.
