The -Germans advanced .slowly vii Foesani and pressed back the' Russians. The latter apparently are successfully extricating their right wing from Falke'nhayn's encircling manaeures.
Colonel Fe-ylor /writes:—"lt now seems clear that'the Sereth line must perforce be abandoned. Stubborn rearguard actions are likely, with a* view to covering the evacuation of Galatz, which is scarcely tenable now that Blraila has gone." Colonel Feyler anticipates steady fighting in the retreat'across Moldavia to the Pruth' line of; defence! This will imply the surrender of tho whole of jßoumaTiia, but also the. still further' elongation of the GermanBulgar lines of communication^ and a corresponding drain on their- resources in men.
