ITALIANS 13 MTLES FROM
TRIESTE.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association
(Received Oct. 13, 9.5 a.m.) ■ ROMS, Oct. 32. The offensive was preceded for five ■days by an intense artillery bombardment and great aorml activity. As. a result of the fighting the Austrkns suffered their heaviest reverse since General Ca.dorna's offensive early in August. The weather recently has n-XHde progress most difficult. The Duke of Aosta- commanded the ■attacking army, which was the same as covered itself with glory at Gorisiia. The assaults resulted in the capture of several elaborately fortified lines, bringing tho Italian front within thirteen miles of Trieste.
General Cadorna's push is a further proof of the unity of the Allies, and is intended to assist the Roumanians, who are hard pressed in Transylvania, also to prevent Austria, from reinforcing tho Lemberg front.
