Sea party m January^ ~ t > Sir Ernest Shackleton announces liis intention of personally proceeding to Ross Sea. It is understood that*a! suitable wooden whaler, apart' from the Avirora, cannot be obtained. It would cost £35,000 to purclxase and refit a wooden vessel in England, but, the Aurora could be fitfed out. much earlier. The Aurora may 'be the means of saving tho castaways.
