ALCOHOL USED FOR EXPLOSIVES.

The war is coming to the rescue oi the distillers in Canada. Large quantities of alcohol are required by the British Government for the manufacture of explosives. From alcohol is manufactured acetone, and acetone is largely used in the manufacture oi cordite. The British Government has already commandeered distilleries in the United Kingdom, so as to coutrol the output of alcohol, needed for the manufacture of explosives. Canadian distillers are now being asked to augment the British and French supplies, and it is understood that large orders for acetone have already been placed in Canada. The Government here, however, has not yet been asked to commandeer any of the distilleries, and it is not thought probable that such action will have to be taken.
