A V.C.. has .been awarded to Squad-ioii-Commander Bell Davis and a Distinguished Service Cross to PligbtLitutenant Smylie under the follow--:ng 'circumstances :•—The officers on 19th November carried out an aircraft raid on Ferri.ik junction. . Smylie's machine was damaged, and he planed down, releasing ail his bombs except nne. On alighting Smylie fired ,his machine, knowing that the bomb would destroy it. Suddenly he saw i>nvis descending close to tlio burning aeroplane. . Fearing that Davi-s was risking dofitruction. Smylio ran back and" exploded the bomb with a pistol bullet at short range Davb'then descended and loo,v Smylie up, despite the near approiicn of a party of Turks, and-re-turned to the aerodrome. It was n ipt or wrnianship seldom equalled in •skill and gallantry.
