Owing to tiro smnil attendance at the fortnightly parade of the National li'esorve on W-ednopd.-ry no drill was held. It was decided to suspend future drills until the first week in February, when it Ls hoped that fresh interest may be infused into the movement. Before the members dispersed Eieut. E. H. Smith made complimentary "reference to the good work done by the secretary ot the unit (Mr W. K. Matthews)/who will be leaving shortly to take up an important position in the North Island.
Mr F. Wells, better known as "Jumbo" Wells, who recently won the mile cycling championship of Australia,, is an old Havelock boy, and his friends here will be pleased to hear of his success. "Jumbo" very nearly pulled off the double event, having been beaten in the five-mile event by inches only.
